Sala Studio: how a design-led Auckland studio unified its entire member experience on CodexFit

A studio built differently

Sala Studio is one of Auckland's most distinctive independent fitness studios, a multi-discipline space in Ponsonby built around the belief that movement, community, and intentional design belong together. Across four named rooms and 18 class formats, Sala has built a brand that members describe not as a gym, but as a third space.

When the co-founders began evaluating technology platforms, they weren't looking for the most feature-rich option on the market. They were looking for a platform that would stay out of the way of their brand, and a team that would build alongside them, not just sell to them.

What wasn't working on Zingfit

Sala had been operating on Zingfit, a boutique fitness platform that, despite its capabilities, increasingly struggled to keep pace with the complexity and ambition of what Sala was building. As their offering expanded across reformer Pilates, yoga, barre, and strength, the friction of working within a system that couldn't flex to meet their needs became increasingly apparent.

But beyond functionality, there was a deeper frustration: members were being pushed off the Sala website to complete their journey. Booking, purchasing, and account management all happened in a separate environment, one that looked nothing like the Sala brand.

"Not forcing members to leave your own site during any part of the journey was very important to us. CodexFit understood that."

The iframed booking widgets, a legacy approach that embeds a third-party interface inside a website without native integration, were a significant limitation for a studio that had invested deeply in its digital presence.

What made CodexFit the right fit

ARCHITECTURE

No iframes. Native integration.

The entire member journey happens within Sala website, never leaving the brand environment from first click to booking confirmation.

AUTOMATION

The Automator

Sophisticated loyalty programmes, member journeys, and operational flows, running automatically without manual effort.

INTEGRATIONS

Best-in-class stack

Stripe for billing. Klaviyo for marketing automation. Metabase for reporting. Each tool doing its job exceptionally.

Modern architecture, deliberate integrations

When Sala evaluated alternatives, two things separated CodexFit from the field: its architectural approach, and its philosophy around integrations.

CodexFit is built without iframes. The entire member journey, booking, purchasing, account management, happens natively within the studio's own website. For Sala, this wasn't a nice-to-have. It was a prerequisite.

"Being built using a modern, flexible approach was a big one, no iframing, but also choosing what to do in platform versus when to hand off to someone doing it well already."

Rather than trying to own every part of the technology stack, CodexFit integrates with Stripe, Klaviyo, and Metabase. This approach resonated with Sala's founders, who value considered choices over consolidated mediocrity. The platform does what it does exceptionally, and connects to specialists for everything else.

The Automator in practice

One of CodexFit's most powerful capabilities, and one that Sala has leveraged extensively, is the Automator: a flexible rules engine that allows studios to build complex, conditional member journeys without writing code or managing manual processes.

For Sala, this has meant building sophisticated loyalty programmes, personalised member milestone journeys, referral and rewards flows, and operational processes that would otherwise require significant staff time to manage.

"The Automator has enabled us to deliver sophisticated member journeys, loyalty programmes, rewards, and operational processes that would otherwise require significant manual effort."

What the Automator enables is the feeling of a highly attentive, individually responsive studio, at scale. Members feel recognised and rewarded. The studio runs leaner.

A team that says “yes”

For Sala's founders, technology is only part of the picture. Equally important is the relationship with the team behind the platform, and here, CodexFit has differentiated itself from every alternative they've encountered.

When Sala has come with ideas or requirements that sit outside standard platform behaviour, the CodexFit team's response has consistently been to find solutions rather than list limitations. Feature requests and feedback have been taken seriously, and in many cases, have found their way onto the product roadmap.

"Whenever we've had ideas or unique requirements, the approach has consistently been one of finding solutions and helping us achieve our goals, rather than simply saying 'that's not possible.'"

The team is described by Sala as approachable, responsive, and genuinely attentive, qualities that are easy to claim and harder to consistently deliver. Many of Sala's suggestions and requests have been thoughtfully incorporated into the product roadmap over time.

"We value CodexFit's approach of integrating with best-in-class tools rather than trying to reinvent every part of the technology stack. The team has been a genuine partner to our business."
